Smart Riders. Big Savers.
Riding the bus can save you a great deal of money. But today, more people are looking for even more ways to save. Here are a few suggestions of things you can do that can make a difference in your financial favor. But we know that being a smart rider, you have ways to save and we’d like you to share them here for other riders to see and benefit from.
Suggestions:
- Ride the bus instead of driving.
- Plan your meals weekly according to what is on sale.
- Use the library to check out books, audio books, music and video games. You won’t spend any money, and the library is probably on your bus route.
- Unplug any electrical items that you are not using. Even if they are not turned on, they are using electricity.
- Take your lunch to work and avoid the vending machines.
- Limit your trips to restaurants and don’t order appetizers or dessert.
- Install energy-efficient light bulbs.
- Choose neighborhoods to live in that are served by transit.
- Live in neighborhoods that have sidewalks and are within a half-mile walk of many or all of your daily tasks.
- Take your bike with you on the bus.
- Ride your bike to the park & ride.
- Remember, 50 percent of all vehicle trips are for two miles or less, so ride your bike or take the bus.
